Author Guidelines

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Manuscripts submitted for publication in Geochimica Brasiliensis should not have been published previously or being considered for publication in any other scientific journal. The content of research articles, reviews and notes is the sole responsibility of the respective author(s) including any conflict of interests with other researchers or organizations.

All contributions are subject to double-blind peer review.

The originality of manuscripts will be verified by checking for plagiarism using available softwares.

On submitting a manuscript, authors agree that the copyright of the article is transferred to the Sociedade Brasileira de Geoquímica (SBGq) when the article is accepted for publication. Articles accepted by Geochimica Brasiliensis are published online and are freely available to the wider public with permitted reuse.

Geochimica Brasiliensis is an open access journal. The articles are licensed under Creative Commons License CC-BY.

1 RESEARCH ARTICLES

Research Articles are submitted by researchers and are based on the analysis and interpretation of data gathered by original geochemical research. Research Articles are limited to 40 pages and must be organized as detailed in STRUCTURE AND FORMATING (Item 6 below)

2 REVIEW ARTICLES

Review Articles are published by invitation. Their purpose is to communicate progress in a specific field of geochemistry, with the objective of providing a critical account of the state of the art from the point of view of the highly qualified and experienced specialist. Review articles are limited to 40 pages and must be organized as a Research Article (see STRUCTURE AND FORMATING - Item 6 below).

3 BOOK REVIEWS

Book Reviews are published by invitation and must not be longer than one page.

4 NOTES

The main purpose of a Note is to convey short communications, which deserve quick publication. They must have the same structure of a Research Article (see STRUCTURE AND FORMATTING Item 6 below) and must not have more than 10 pages.

5 INITIAL SUBMISSION

For the initial submission, the manuscript must be sent in two pdf files:

1a) One file containing the title, full name, affiliation (Institution) and full address of all authors with clear indication of the corresponding author, who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing publication and also post-publication.

1b) In this same file authors may indicate up to four potential reviewers. They must be from different institutions and from different institutions than those of the authors. Provide along with their names, link to their Curriculum Lattes (if applicable) and email address for communication.

2) A second pdf file containing the title and the the main text of the manuscript (the name of the authors and their addresses must be omitted here). This file will be used in the peer-review process.

Lines must be sequentially numbered. Tables and Figures must be included in the text body in the appropriate place of insertion, numbered in crescent order and centralized. Ensure that the size of Tables, Figures and Graphs are sufficient for correct reading and comprehension for the reader. Table captions must be placed above it and the captions for figures and graphs must be placed below it. Captions must be justified. It is advisable that files do not exceed 10Mb.

The introduction of accurate data of ALL authors (full name, affiliation, address, e-mail and ORCID) in the submission session is the responsibility of the corresponding author. Do not forget to check the box:

               “Send e-mail to request ORCID authorization from contributor”

Sending the initial submission file: pdf files (the two ones mentioned in the first paragraph of this session) must be sent through the submission system of the Geochimica Brasiliensi homepage (www.geobrasiliensis.com.br).

6 STRUCTURE AND FORMATING

The submission process is divided into two phases. In the first one, the manuscript will be submitted as two pdf files (see Item 5 above). In the second phase, upon acceptance of the manuscript, editable files (doc or docx) must be sent as separate files: front page, manuscript, figures and tables (see item 7 below)

Language: Research Articles, Book Reviews and Notes written in Portuguese or in English will be accepted.

Manuscript Organization: The Geochimica Brasiliensis Editorial Board suggests the author(s) to present the text (main body of the manuscript – see Item 5 above) in one pdf file with the following sequence:

1) Title (Portuguese and English) – it must be concise and informative.

2) Abstracts (Portuguese and English) - The author(s) should provide two abstracts of 150 to 250 words in one paragraph, one of them written in Portuguese and another in English, using font Times New Roman, size 10, line space 1, text justified. For non-Portuguese speakers a translation of the Abstract can be provided, on request, by the Editors.

3) Keywords: The author(s) should provide 3 to 5 keywords, separated by commas

4) Full Text: The full text should cover at least the following themes:

     Introduction

     Materials and Methods

     Results and Discussion

     Conclusions

even with different titles which must be sequentially numbered, 1, 2, 3…. The use of sub-items should be avoided, but when absolutely necessary they should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ...), 1.2, etc.

For the main text, use font Times New Roman, size 11, line space 1.5, paper size A4, picture orientation and edited in one column. Lines must be sequentially numbered. Margins: superior 2.0; inferior 2.0; left 3.0 and right 2.0.

Figures: Graphical illustrations, photos and photomicrographs must be numbered in sequence as they are mentioned in the text and will be all considered as Figures. They must be separated from the text by one blank line. Maps must contain a graphical scale and the indication of North.

Symbols and texts on figures must have adequate dimensions to allow legibility. All symbols must be clearly explained as a legend or in the caption.

Pictures from outcrops must contain a graphical scale.

Tables: Use the text processor to write up tables. Tables must be self-explaining, with open sides, concise and sequentially numbered. Do not paste figures in their place.

Abbreviations: Must be avoided or kept to a minimum. If used, they must be defined the first time they are mentioned and must not be used in the title or abstract, unless absolutely necessary. 

Equations: They must be sequentially numbered with Arabic numerals between brackets, on its right side.

Citations in the text: All references must be cited in the text, identified by their author(s) and date of publication. See item 8 below for details.

5) Acknowledgments. It must be in a separate paragraph just before the References

7 FINAL VERSION SUBMISSION

Once accepted by the Reviewers as well as by the Editor-in-Chief, the corresponding author will receive specific instructions concerning the final version design and how to send the files.

The main text must be sent as an editable file (doc or docx) - pdf files will not be required at this stage.

Text and tables must be sent as separate editable files (doc or docx).

Figures (colored, black and white and shades of gray) must be saved as tiff or jpg files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. In bitmapped line drawings, use a minimum of 1000 dpi. In color or grayscale photographs (halftones), use a minimum of 300 dpi. Colored figures must be as cmyk (not rgb) and shades of gray must be in gray-scale.

Use a logical naming convention for your artwork files.

Sending the final version: Text, figures and tables must be sent as separate files through the submission system of the Geochimica Brasiliensis homepage (www.geobrasiliensis.com.br).

8 REFERENCES

References must be written with Times New Roman font size 11, line space 1. Automatic spacing must be used between paragraphs. References must be ordered in alphabetical order of the first author surname. We encourage authors to include DOI link, whenever possible, in the references. Use the following examples as guidelines. Ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa).
